What 'Structured Cabling' looks like behind the scenes
When someone brings up ‘structured cabling’ it sounds like they’re talking about about the support structure for a suspension bridge. In a way that analogy fits - since it’s the critical backbone that supports any building’s network. It’s just hidden behind the scene, in a wall or the ceiling. At SpaceBound Solutions, we like to make things ‘Simple.’ It’s part of our tagline, ‘Managed IT Services and Physical Security solutions, Simplified!’ Each week, we seem to always go back what’s happening with AI or the latest cyber security threats.
But this week, we wanted you to get the perspective of what it’s like to be a part of our Physical Security team on a structured cabling installation at a client’s building. Our engineers and technicians take on multiple client projects across the northeast Ohio area (our Physical Security team is based out of our new building in downtown Cleveland). From network racks to organizing cables to installing security cameras, we make sure you have the equipment that fits your needs while keeping it well maintained.
Our physical security services cover security camera systems, intercoms, structured cabling, access control systems, intrusion alarms, pre-wiring, and more.
How does this process usually work? First, we set up a consultation with you - to determine your needs and the best equipment that will fit within your budget. Additionally, we map out a site audit that lets us see the best routes to run cables. (All of our cables are low voltage to comply with federal regulations.) To ensure the best performance of our services, we’ll run tests of all our cables, terminating any that don’t optimize at the location they’re installed. We also make sure our cables our optimized best with devices like wall-mounted brackets, bridal rings, and other cable management hardware.
After we conduct a final run of our cables to validify their performance and the connectivity, our clients are then given a diagram of the cables, complete with their functions and numbering.
Our team adheres to the latest network specifications and will identify the necessary hardware, software needed - plus, have an action plan in place to keep all technology solutions connected and up to speed.
The recent videos and pictures taken (shown below) at various clients’ sites give you a window into what it’s like for our team to work at a client's building. For example, we show you how our engineers rearchitected a network rack installation and cable termination set up - or, running cables in a massive warehouse. We start by organizing, routing, and terminating all cables ()for security cameras, etc.). We then show you how we clean up and organize everything for installation of the patch panels and network switches.
Other client project examples include setting up cabling, pre-wiring, and access control systems at a local business in Cleveland, in particular an ADA compliant door, an automated system that opens as an employee scans their keycard. Other examples include reorganizing abandoned or tangled wire cables for clients. Relocating and moving objects gives our team more access to the cables themselves, allowing them to detangle and properly connect them to one of our own junction boxes, ensuring everything is organized. Last week, we even got the chance to help a bar Cleveland, Ohio have more TVs connected over one Ethernet cable - this enabled the bar’s staff to control all TVs from one central location.
