How Digital Signage can Provide Relief during the Coronavirus Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting almost every part of our daily lives. As the number of restrictions increase on things like gatherings and travel, we are all becoming a little more isolated. As we’re all trying to navigate through the pandemic, so are digital signage vendors who are feeling the impact of coronavirus.
“Stock market volatility as a result of coronavirus fears may cause budget reductions and approval delays that could impact demand for digital signage vendors in the near-term,” said Jeff Hastings, CRO of BrightSign.
Although we’re all doing our best to get through these tumultuous times, digital signage is proving to be a calming force that is providing ways for people to remain connected and informed.
Schools across the nation are closed. But that doesn’t mean learning has to stop. In an effort to stay connected, ViewSonic Corp, an educational digital signage provider is offering their myViewBoard collaboration software for free to schools. The software offers tools like video conferencing, digital whiteboarding and more to help teachers stay connected to their students during what is expected to be an extended break from class.
"As a stakeholder in the education sector, we wanted to make sure we're doing our part in supporting schools, educators, students and parents in this very trying time, especially those without access to distance learning," said James Chu, CEO, ViewSonic. "While some schools with pre-existing capabilities have already implemented distance learning during school closures, many more have been caught off guard by the coronavirus and have ceased all in-person classes."
Businesses also need to stay connected, and tools from ViewSonic are also helping that vertical.
In an interview, Staisey Divorski, VP of Marketing for Enplug, says, "Companies facing travel restrictions will host more meetings remotely, so we expect to see a big uptick in the use of our Zoom App that enables companies to conduct video collaboration over their networked displays."
Another important purpose digital signage serves is to help provide public safety information, so that people can have knowledge they need try and protect themselves from the virus, and keep up-to-date on important news.
"Digital signage plays a more important role than ever in trying times like these. That's because sharing important health and safety information quickly is necessary for keeping employees and customers safe," Divorski said.
One example of how indoor digital signage can play an important role in keeping people safe could just be a simple message reminding everyone to sanitize their area, wash their hands and refrain from touching their face. This helps keep these important tips top of mind, since we may take these actions for granted.
Outdoor digital signage plays a similar role, by delivering health tips such as hand-washing guidelines to follow or time-sensitive information such as important business or event closings that are occurring.
The Digital Signage community is doing their part to try and help reduce stress in these uncertain times.
