Dan Faltisco Recap: NEOTD Tech + Toast

Our Keynote Speaker at the Tech + Toast event was Dan Faltisco, a technology consultant for schools and companies. He explained the threat landscape in 2017, prevention and protection in K-12, and practical advice on mitigating threats.

He began with an example from the early 90’s of a movie called “Hackers.” He explained that while the movie is entertaining, the threats are so different now than what they were when the internet was first taking off. Now, everything is connected, and humans also have an impact on security.

He went on to speak about how K-12 is particularly in danger because of BYOD, Ransomware, and Insider Threat.

After discussing the threats that schools can face, he gave advice on protecting the data. This included Network defenses including email protection and APT tools, endpoint defenses, and backup recovery. He explained that putting all of these together will help save you from an attack and even if an attack slips through, you will be able to get your information back safely.

Cybersecurity is a huge issue for some schools, and Dan made it simple to understand and helped educators learn more about the threats they face.
