As technology advances, so does Artificial Intelligence.  Soon, AI will be a regular part of our daily lives. So how are schools integrating AI into a K-12 environment to ensure students are prepared to enter a workforce that will be heavily influenced by AI?

A report by Gartner says that by the time current K-12 students enter the workforce, 1 in five workers will have some form of artificial intelligence as a coworker. In order to properly prepare today’s students, an AI curricula will need to be implemented.

The Montour School District in Pennsylvania has recognized this and are taking steps to prepare an appropriate curriculum. One example of how they incorporating AI into their curriculum is through tablets and smart assistants like Amazon Alexa to explore machine learning and to learn about the ethics of using Artificial Intelligence.

However, experts realize that planning an AI-focused curricula is difficult, and many schools are not focusing on this.  Therefore organizations are being created to help schools plan a learning environment centered around Artificial Intelligence.

One of these groups is the AI for K-12 Working Group.  The group, created by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence and the Computer Science Teachers Association, recently released a report titled “Envisioning AI for K-12: What should every child know about AI?”. The report (which can be seen here) details how AI functions, the ethics of AI, and much more.

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly growing and soon will be an element of our daily lives that we be taken for granted. As AI powers our technology, energy, electricity and more, helping our future workforce learn about this vital technology is more important than ever.
